As a true Himachali, it is a moment of pride for me and HPCA that we will have Himachal’s very own Rishi Dhawan playing for Kings XI Punjab. Congratulations to Rishi and best wishes to him for the tournament!
This young man’s performance till date has earned him the stature of a local hero in Himachal. Being selected to play for the local team Kings XI Punjab at Rs 3 crores—one of the highest bids this season—has made him the most expensive uncapped Indian player purchased till now. With this feather in his cap, I am looking forward to seeing the name of Rishi Dhawan adorn the Indian jersey soon!
There are many young talented athletes like Rishi Dhawan whom the HPCA works hard at nurturing and grooming to be the future cricket players of India. HPCA believes in the all-round development of young cricketing talent in Himachal, and with this aim in mind it continues to hone their skills by providing them adequate exposure and also the facilities which they need for the game of cricket to progress.
I recall how just a short while ago the greatest challenge the HPCA and its young athletes faced was having the right infrastructure and the best of facilities for their training. I wanted to make sure that the dreams of these young children should not go unrealized and with that goal in mind, I set about having the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium built. This stadium meets international standards providing modern-day facilities like a gymnasium, an indoor practice area, a sauna, etc., to the local talent.
Times have changed, India has progressed and now it is imperative for us to recognize, train and showcase our sporting talent and skills in the international arena. The HPCA’s efforts are geared towards this. HPCA is committed to continue nurturing the talent of budding athletes and bringing pride, fame and recognition to Himachal Pradesh.
