On December 31, 2013 Anurag Thakur organized a rally demanding strict action against Virbhadra Singh. This rally was a strong protest organized by the BJYM to highlight what it calls the double standards of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party as a whole. On one hand Congress is giving the credit for passage of Lok Pal Bill to Rahul Gandhi yet on the other hand a senior Congress leader and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh, is accused of corruption, but no action is taken against him.
The protest witnessed massive participation by thousands of BJYM activists. The activists gathered outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence demanding Virbhadra Singh’s resignation. In the biting cold weather, the BJYM activists were lathi-charged and water cannons were used against them. After the extensive protest, BJYM National President Anurag Singh Thakur and the party activists were detained at Tuglak Road Police Station till late afternoon.
Speaking to the press during the protest Anurag Thakur stated that it is an open and shut case and has exposed the double standards of the Congress party on corruption. This is not the first case of corruption against Virbhadra Singh. CBI is yet to submit a status report in another corruption case against him by February 2014 in the Delhi High Court.
Anurag Thakur affirmed, “Congress can’t take any credit for passing acts in the Parliament without any credible action in such a blatant and crystal clear corruption case. In fact, as per documents sent to the Prime Minister this matter doesn’t even need any investigation! The CM must resign immediately."
Anurag Thakur even demanded the resignation of MP Mrs. Pratibha Singh, wife of Virbhadra Singh. She allegedly took crores of rupees from one investor Vakamulla Chander Shekhar and purchased shares in another company of his. In addition, allegedly Virbhadra Singh’s son Vikramaditya, who is also the Youth Congress Chief in HP also took crores of rupees from the same individual involved in the case.
A point to be taken into account is that all the activities of Virbhadra Singh and his family with the alleged power company was hidden in the election affidavit during last year’s Assembly elections. In addition, Mrs. Pratibha Singh did not mention the 3.4 lakh shares held by her in this company in her election affidavit; however, she mentioned 2110 shares in some other unlisted company. 3.4 lakh and 3 lakh worth shares of the same company promoted by the same person favored by Virbhadra Singh are in the name of Virbhadra Singh’s children.
As per facts of the case, Anurag Thakur also alleged that this bribe money is being hidden under the garb of unsecured loan by the Chief Minister though he himself had 10 crore rupees in his bank accounts. Mr. Vakamulla Chandershekhar’s company has taken a loan of 35 crores from banks. As per the audit report of the company for the year 2012, the company has defaulted for the loan repayment of about Rs. 4.65 crores.
