In their third game, India beat Pakistan by 95 runs, keeping up their successful streak. They had set a goal of 170, but Pakistan was bowled out for 64. Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht took five wickets for 18 runs.
After winning the toss, Mithali Raj opted to bat first. Unfortunately, Smriti Mandhana was out with only 2 runs, but Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut manged to score 67 runs between them. Raut was taken out for 47 and India dropped wickets repeatedly, to score 6/11. The partnership of Sushma Verma and Jhulan Goswami, saved the day by notching up 34 runs, taking India to a total of 169/9.
In a speech after the match Captain Mithali Raj praised the duo, “There were some anxious moments when we lost the top-order. One of the off days for them. The partnership between Sushma Verma and Jhulan was crucial. After we got to 160, we knew it could be anybody’s game.”
The previous time that India played Pakistan in an ODI, Ekta Bisht took five wickets, passing the 50-wicket mark. She repeated this feat on Sunday at the Derbyshire County Cricket Ground, becoming the fifth-highest wicket-taker for India in this category.
