Lieutenant Governor Calls on BJP

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Mr Najeeb Jung invited BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Mr Harshwardhan to discuss the government formation in Delhi. According to political experts, during this discussion Lieutenant Governor might ask the BJP to form the government.

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri. Najeeb Jung has invited Shri. Harshwardhan of BJP to discuss about the government formation. This meeting is likely to be held on Thursday. BJP won with a huge margin in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections. Nevertheless, being 4 seats away from a simple majority, BJP decided to be in the opposition. However with this meeting, it seems likely that BJP will form the government in Delhi. After the results came out, the BJP being the largest party was asked first to try and form the government.
BJP has 32 seats inclusive of 1 seat from its ally Akali Dal whereas AAP, in its first election, procured 27 seats.  Amidst all this, Congress won only 8 seats and others procured 2 seats.

The BJP has said that since it did not have a clear majority, it would rather sit in the opposition than ally with APP. It remains to be seen if the AAP will hold true to its election promises by not aligning with the Congress or seek this opportunity to make its leader Mr Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister. The AAP has surprised many political pundits by emerging as the second largest party in Delhi, however inspite of all the euphoria, the party could not emerge victorious in the city where the Anna movement began.
