BJP MP from Hamirpur and Global Fund Champion, Anurag Thakur met MP from UK, Nick Herbert who is the founder of Global TB Caucus. It is the largest organization which works for the elimination of malaria, AIDS and TB worldwide.
MP Thakur said, "At a recent TB eradication summit in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target to free India of TB by 2025, whereas global targets are 2030. I asked for Mr Nick Herbert’s cooperation in this mission and we shared views on effective ways to tackle tuberculosis. According to statistics, TB is one of the major health problems in this country and 27% of TB patients globally are from here. It kills nearly 4 million people annually."
Mr Nick Herbert commented, "We appreciate MP Thakur’s efforts in spreading awareness about public health issues. He is a dynamic young leader and his support will accelerate action against the disease. Under his chairmanship we have seen his commitment to the TB-Free India campaign in April 2017. The aim of this initiative is to create a far-reaching awareness of TB. With the establishment of a leading institute such as AIIMS in Himachal, it is obvious that he is dedicated to improving public health. It is necessary to openly talk to people on health issues and to become our voice in the campaign."
