BJP MP from Hamirpur and Chief Whip, Anurag Thakur, introduced four private member Bills in the Lok Sabha – ‘The Suicide Prevention in Youth Bill, 2018’; ‘Population Stabilisation and Planning Bill, 2018’; ‘The Single Use Plastic Bill, 2018’ and ‘The Water (Accessibility and Conservation) Bill, 2018.
The Suicide Prevention in Youth Bill, 2018 tackles the increasing incidents of suicide among the young of the country with a community – based approach, said a source close to the BJP MP. The draft law lays emphasis on the necessity for “timely intervention and removal of stigma associated with reporting mental illness” and increasing the lines of communication and for matters therewith.
The Population Stabilisation and Planning Bill, 2018 aims at providing a wide-ranging policy for stabilizing the population of the country by providing voluntary and safe access to contraception methods. MP Thakur in addition to establishing a Population Planning Agency, wants to promote schemes to incentivize the small family model and provide access to education for the girl child.
The Single Use Plastic Bill, 2018 provides guidelines to enable India to progress towards its goal of eliminating single-use plastic by 2022.
The Water (Accessibility and Conservation) Bill, 2018 aspires to provide a complete national legal framework with principles for distribution, conservation, regulation and management of water resources as an essential but stressed natural resource.
