Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Uttarakhand now have their own Doordarshan channel.
MP and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Information Technology Anurag Thakur thanked Prime Minister Modi for acknowledging and granting the request to make Doordarshan’s regional channel available for 24 hours on Direct-To-Home (DTH). DD Shimla will now air for 24 hours on DTH, instead of only 4 hours.
The standing committee of information technology under the chairmanship of Anurag Thakur visited Shimla, Chandigarh and other places as a part of the study tour, where the issue was mentioned, an official release said.
MP Thakur said, “Our government is committed towards expanding the footprint and reach of Doordarshan channels. Through the standing committee of information technology, I have been advocating on making Doordarshan regional channels 24 hours available on DTH.” The initiative would not only strengthen the regional channels, but also help in promoting local culture, news, artists and also expand employment avenues, he added.
“During the study tour of the standing committee of information technology to Shimla, Chandigarh and other parts of the country, the matter was taken up and viewing the merits of the case, the committee proposed to make the channel 24 hours on DTH in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, North East, Goa, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh,” he said.
