Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening stated in a tweet that the Centre’s approach towards poverty alleviation is comprehensive not isolated. Modi also said that all key schemes being executed by his government are aimed at eliminating poverty.
PM Modi’s tweet was actually a response to one of his twitter follower’s tweet who praised PM Modi’s Ujjwala Yojana after it crossed 2 crore mark. PM Ujjwala Yojana is an ambitious social welfare programme launched by BJP government on 01 May 2016 for providing subsidised LPG connections to the poor. The scheme is aimed at replacing wood-based cooking with LPG-based kitchens. The number of beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala Yojana has recently crossed 2 crore mark in less than a year. Acclaiming this achievement, PM Modi tweeted “Matter of immense joy & pride that the number of beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala Yojana has crossed 2 crore in less than a year.” He also congratulated the beneficiaries. Responding to a tweet by another follower who praised the effective implementation of the scheme, the Prime Minister said, "Good point on implementation. It is as vital as the scheme itself. Implementation & ground level reach of Ujjwala Yojana is commendable."
In another tweet he said, “Several women, particularly poor women in rural areas have been sharing the transformative impact of Ujjwala Yojana.” The government aims to reach out to 5 crore BPL households in providing subsidized connections under this scheme.
