An initiative to ensure increased safety & security of women of Himachal Pradesh
Women safety is one of the most critical concerns not only for the women community but the entire society including law and order agencies, policy makers, civil society agencies and institutions of women empowerment.
In a bid to ensure increased safety & security of Women of Himachal Pradesh, on the occasion of International Women’s Day – 8 March 2022, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India Anurag Singh Thakur launched Mahila Suraksha Kavach.
As a part of the initiative, 108 Motorbikes were given to the Police Department of Himachal Pradesh, across Districts namely Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, Sirmaur and Mandi.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, a grand launch programme was organized in Government Senior Secondary Boys School Ground, Hamirpur and was graced by Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Former Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh as the Chief Guest of the event, Sanjay Kundu DGP Himachal Pradesh as the Guest of Honour, key dignitaries from the Police Department, Olympians Rani Rampal, Indian Field Hockey Player & Captain of Indian Women’s Hockey Team Olympics 2020 and Mirabai Chanu, Tokyo Olympics 2020 Silver Medalist, Weightlifting along with Bollywood celebrity Yami Gautam as the special guests, were a part of the event.
A host of celebrities and athletes like Kangana Ranaut, Raveena Tandon, Nishad Kumar – Silver Medalist Paralympic Games 2020, Hima Das – Indian Athlete, P. R. Sreejesh – Goalkeeper of Indian Hockey Team that won bronze medal at 2020 Olympics, also shared their thoughts about the initiative and appreciated the efforts of Mr Anurag Thakur towards women empowerment.
